Sometimes the best thing you can do for a landscape bed is start fresh. This property in Farmington had a row of overgrown shrubs running along the garage side of the house - tangled, scraggly, and taking up space without adding much to look at. The edging was still there, but everything inside it had run its course.

We pulled out the old shrubs, cleaned up the bed, and installed light-colored decorative rock across the full length of the run. One small accent shrub was kept near the garage corner to give it a little life without going overboard. Simple, intentional, and way easier to maintain going forward.

That's actually one of the biggest reasons homeowners make this switch - maintenance. Shrubs need trimming, shaping, and ongoing attention. Rock just sits there and looks good. No watering, no pruning, no mess every fall. For a side bed that most people walk past rather than sit next to, it's a smart call.

Rock installation done right also needs proper prep underneath. Without it, you end up with weeds pushing through and rock that shifts and thins out over time. We make sure the bed is set up to hold up long-term, not just look good on day one.

This kind of work is exactly what we do - take a bed that's lost its purpose and give it a clean, low-maintenance identity that actually fits the home. If you've got shrubs or beds that have been bugging you, this is what the other side of that decision looks like.
