Here's what we were working with - a tired, overgrown bed with old mulch that had seen better days. No real definition to the edges, plants that were getting lost in the mess, and the kind of space that just blends into the background. Not a bad yard by any means, but definitely not working as hard as it could.

We pulled out the old mulch completely, cleaned everything up, and installed paver edging to give the bed a crisp, defined border. That edge work is what makes the whole thing pop. It creates a clean separation between the lawn and the rock bed, and it holds everything in place so you're not constantly fighting shifting material or weeds creeping in from the grass.

Once the edging was set, we filled the bed with rock. Rock beds are genuinely one of the better long-term moves for low-maintenance landscaping. No annual mulch refresh, no breaking down over time, and they hold their look through freeze-thaw cycles without shifting around. A few accent boulders and some small shrubs planted into the bed give it some visual interest without adding a ton of upkeep.

The curved shape of the bed follows the natural flow of the yard and works with the existing tree rather than around it. That kind of detail makes a yard look intentional instead of just filled in. What you end up with is a space that looks sharp, stays manageable, and actually adds to the curb appeal of the home instead of just existing there.
