This Eagan backyard had gotten away from itself. Buckthorn had taken over, the mulch beds were a mess, and the pond needed attention. The kind of yard that's hard to enjoy when it looks like it's fighting you every time you walk outside.

We started by tearing out the buckthorn - that stuff spreads fast and chokes out everything around it if you let it go. Once that was cleared, we laid fresh weed barrier before putting down the new mulch. That step matters a lot. Skip the barrier, and you're pulling weeds again by midsummer.

The mulch beds now wrap cleanly around the existing paver patio area and stone fire pit, giving the whole backyard a finished, intentional look. Fresh red mulch against that natural stone and paver hardscape is a combination that just works. It ties everything together without overcomplicating it.

We also cleaned out the pond, which is one of those things that's easy to overlook but makes a big difference in how the overall space feels. A clean water feature reads as a feature. A neglected one reads as a problem.

The end result is a yard that's genuinely low-maintenance and ready to use. Less time managing overgrowth, more time actually being outside.
